Toydogloverz Breed of the Week is....

The Chihuahua

A naturally gifted barker, attached companion, almost human like. All of these traits mark a chihuahua, sometimes even more then their large ears and eyes. The AKC states that no Chihuahua should weigh over 6 pounds, making the Chihuahua one the smallest dogs in the known world today.

Chihuahuas are adorable little beings and love attention. They can be very dependent on their owners.

Did you know...
-typical birth weights range from 3 to 5 ounces
-there are a rainbow of coat colours, even red and blue!
-there was a myth that chihuahuas were kind of "dim", but it was exactly that a myth
-Chihuahuas are adept obedience pupils, but require special handling

Aye, Chihuahua!
Chihuahuas are believed to be originated from a breed of dog called the Techichi. No one knows for sure how they came to being like they are today but there are many ideas including breeding with prairie dogs. They come in two varieties - The long coat and the short coat but are recognized and shown separately. Chihuahuas can be litter, paper. piddle pad and housetrained. They are great apartment dogs, but can at times be noisy. They can be very affectionate if well socialized at a young age. An extremely good pet!

Chihuahuas flurish as watchdogs, lapdogs, protectors and protectees.
Chihuahuas can be fiercely loyal to their family, but are more often to just one family member. They are one of the most loyal dogs. Woe to the strangers ankles who doesn't get the resident Chihuahuas approval!

This is a great example of a Blue/Gray Chihuahua.
